He Huang, Fudan University (China)

Dr. Huang is a promising scholar. His research involves the computational analyses of dialect data to understand regional variation and its relationship with time, space, and society. He views linguistic variation as a window into the underlying structure of human language and further as a comprehensive measure of human behavior and culture. His work on dialectology has demonstrated his theoretical and applied skills, which he has acquired by studying and researching at universities in China, Japan, Belgium, and Britain. He has published 2 monographs, 1 academic translated work, 27 articles in high-level journals in linguistics, and 1 book chapter. He also participated as a co-editor of a scholarly anthology in linguistics. He has presided over the National Social Science Fund and the Ministry of Education in China and participated as a project member in 2 major national projects. He has given 31 invited talks at more than ten universities in China, Japan, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, and 11 talks in conferences and workshops. He has received 7 academic awards in linguistics, including the Luo-Changpei Linguistics Award from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the First Prize of Ministerial-Level Academic Awards in China. He has organized 1 conference and 16 talks, served as Associate Editor for an interdisciplinary journal, and acted as a peer reviewer for 9 linguistic journals. He is also a member of 6 academic societies. He also has high expertise in teaching, having taught many different courses on Sociolinguistics, Language variation and change, dialectology and geolinguistics, and Modern Chinese grammar. His research stays abroad demonstrate his strong organizational skills and capacity to cooperate with others in a multicultural background. Currently, he is working on a funded interdisciplinary research project on the interaction between linguistic systems and external factors.
